Amerricka’s Dream is proud to announce that lot 39 located on Water Tower Drive will be made available for the community Garden for the 2011 summer season! Plots will be available soon for your spring planning and planting! Contact us or the Marshall Park & Rec director Matt Hendricks at 655-4017 ext. 216 for more information or to put in a request for a plot. You may also post here if you are intersted and we will send your request on to Matt for you. We look forward to seeing you out in the gardens and will post photos throughout the summer here, so check back often.
This is an example of what a commuity garden looks like. Paths and mulch will be provided by the Village, along with a water tank for watering your plants.
Plot and Site Care:
You are responsible for your own plot and a share of the site operation and maintenance. Garden plots should be cared for at least once per week. Small, tasetful fences will be allowed to keep out small animals, as there are a lot of bunnies around.
Weeds and Plot Care:
Keep your plot weeded and clear of trash and diseased plants. If the plot is left uncared for and mowing needs to occur more than twice, the plot will be considered abandoned. Remove all metal and wood stakes, plastic mulch, stakes, and tomato cages in fall.
Illness/Vacation:
If you are unable to care for your plot for a time, ask someone to maintain your plot and harvest ripened food. You can also call Michelle Hall at 608-219-6188 if you need assistance with this during your absence.
Abandoned Plots:
If you abandon your garden, move away, or change your phone number, notify the Marshall Parks, Recreation Department. Any plot that appears to be unattended with weeds taking over and going to seed may be mowed down without notice.
Stakes:
Plot “corner” and “number” stakes must be left in place all season.
RESPONSIBLE GARDENING
Good Neighbors:
Keep plants within your own plot. If you grow plants 2 feet high or taller, plant them in the middle of the plot so that your neighbor’s plot will not be shaded. If you grow spreading plants, be sure there is room in your plot.
Path Care:
Keep plot boundaries weeded. If you are on a pathway, you are responsible to care for ½ of the pathway between you and your neighbor. Keep plot edges and fencing free of weeds that will go to seed. Keep weed seeds out of the garden!!
Extra Produce:
Gardeners are encouraged to “Plant a row for the Hungry.” Plant a little extra, or if the cucumber goes wild, please take your extra product to the Marshall/Waterloo Food Pantry. Food should not be wasted. Give extra food to those in our area who need it.
Problem Plants:
Do not plant Jerusalem artichokes, mints, including catnip, or other root plants that spread. They live through the winter and may be problems next year for you or someone else. Tall corn plants and tall sunflowers (higher than 2’) are not appropriate in small community garden plots. Community Garden coordinator and neighboring gardeners may need to prune or remove inappropriate plants, vines going beyond or tall plants causing shade problems.
Vandalism and Theft:
Harvest ripe vegetables!! The Village of Marshall cannot patrol gardens nor control vandalism and theft that may occur. Police can help only if they arrive while a person is stealing or destroying property. Take down descriptions and license numbers of cars you suspect are improperly at your site. Let police know.
SITE MAINTENANCE
Please help keep compost areas picked up, weeded and neat.
Mulch:
Biodegradable mulch such as compost, leaves, straw, and hay are acceptable and encouraged. Grass clippings tend to grow MOLD and thus are NOT allowed. Carpet mulch is also not allowed.
Trash:
Take home all cans, bottles, dirty diapers, plastic and papers. Please help keep your garden site clean. The village does not pick up trash at the site.
Rocks:
Dispose of rocks properly by placing them on the rock pile on the side of the gardens.
Plant Refuse Piles:
Please use designated areas. No trash please.
Water:
Water must not be wasted. There will be a water bin provided. No car washing is allowed.

The Marshall PTA is pleased to announce a partnership with Restaino & Associates Realtors Michelle Hall and Mike Adler, who have chosen the Marshall PTA to be the exclusive recipient of donations for the new Amerricka’s Dream Community Involvementprogram. The program is designed to give back to the community through the schools, and assist the PTA in their efforts to provide the teachers and schools the materials, resources and supplies that are much needed. It takes a village to raise a child, and building the village means offering support! The incentive program offers current Marshall PTA members, district staff and faculty a 3% discount on any lot list price, and with that, the Marshall PTA will receive a 2% donation of the final lot price!
A Grand Opening kick off of Amerricka’s Dream Subdivision Open House is set for March 6-7th from 1pm to 4pm at 530 Water Tower Drive, where you can talk to Michelle and Mike, discuss plans with a builder, get pre-approved/qualified for a construction loan with a lender, see lot sizes and dimensions, and check out the neighborhood! Light snacks will also be served throughout the day. You can see more information about the lots, prices and more on the web site at www.buildinmarshall.com.
The potential for the PTA’s success is great. With your help, we can raise money & donate to our schools for needed funding requests. PTA helps out in many different ways from providing yearly scholarships, Math & Science Night, Author visits, field trip & busing transportation, & community events (such as the annual Monster Mash). For more information on the incentive program, please contact Michelle at 608-219-6188 or Mike at 608-235-5115.
